I honestly believe that there is always scope for improvement in everyone. That’s the beautiful thing about the human race we can evolve and improve. I didn’t have the greatest childhood, and as a result, I rushed into early adulthood as a way to escape. Along the way, I had a huge desire to improve myself and always strive to be better where I can. My bookshelves are filled with self-help books, and I am still trying to educate myself on the point of view that others have. I do what I can to be a better person, and that’s all I can ask of myself each day.
Social Media & The World Today
The boom of social media has seen a considerable rise in cyberbullying and keyboard warriors galore. Everyone has an opinion and now everyone has a platform in which to share it. It’s a difficult era to be growing up, and I worry about my children because I know it’s much harder nowadays than it was back when I was younger. I sometimes wonder if manners are still a ‘thing’ taught to people or whether they have just chosen not to use them. Thank you is heard far less these days, and the word ‘sorry’ has become almost meaningless.
Stress is also a massive factor in the world today, and people seem to always be in a rush. Everything needed to be done yesterday, and time only seems to be going faster. We, as a human race, are killing our planet with single-use plastics and throw away culture. When McDonald’s swapped out their plastic straws, there was a wave of people stockpiling the plastic ones. “If it’s not broken, why fix it?” Erm, I don’t know, maybe because the planet is desperate for us to make a change!! It’s this lack of education or the absence of genuine care – it’s not going to happen in our lifetime! We need to make changes, set examples and turn things around before it’s too late.
Food Banks Are The Norm
So many people rely on food banks every single day it’s becoming the norm which is ridiculous. Mothers, the elderly, working families are all finding it harder and harder to make ends meet. In a world where your neighbour could be struggling to afford food to eat, do you not want to be the change?
I know that there are little changes and things I can focus on to be a better person in 2020 and if like me you want to make a change, but you don’t really know where to start I’ve put together a list of things to try:
How to Be a Better Person in 2020
- Donate (if you can)
- Money
- Time
- Clothes
- Food
- Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
- Give the Benefit of the Doubt
- Don’t Make Excuses or Pass the Blame
- Spread Happiness Like The Common Cold
- Use Your Manners
- Use Your Words
- Forgive
- Don’t Hold Onto Anger
- Let Go Of The Past
- Embrace The Future
- Smile More
- Be You
- Try Not To Pass Judgment
- Be Kind to Both Yourself & Others
- Do More Of What Makes You Happy
What will you be doing to be a better person in 2020? I’d love to hear your ideas.
