For many of you it is too early to be contemplating Christmas but let me tell you – since November started I have enjoyed nothing more than some festive music and a Gin Cocktail in the evenings! It’s 2020 we have to take the joy where we can get it! Speaking of Gin, I’ve put together a gift guide suitable for any Gin Lovers in your life let me know what you think!
One of my favourite Gins has to be Mermaid Gin from the Isle of Wight Distillery. The striking bottle makes it a great gift that is both enjoyed in a cocktail or mixer and also an eye-catching display piece. This is a small batch gin distilled using ten ethically sourced botanicals including the locally foraged rock samphire from the Isle of Wight’s cliffs – locally known as ‘Mermaid’s Kiss.’ The bottle is entirely plastic-free with a plant-based seal and natural cork and wood stopper. Available from John Lewis and Master of Malt RRP £40.00/70cl.
One of my favourite gins is the Rock Rose – Winter Edition. It is honestly the perfect winter warmer and one a gin lover will be sure to appreciate. The gin has been stripped back, and the main focus is on the botanical spruce tips (very festive!) which give the gin a real earthy flavour reminiscent of winter woodland walks and cosy evenings. This gin would be the perfect accompaniment for any Christmas parties and makes a lovely tipple on a cosy Sunday evening! Available to buy here it’s also worth mentioning they do fully recyclable refill pouches too! Available to buy here.
TV presenter Julia Bradbury and her sister Gina have a deep-rooted love for walking, which is why they set up the website The Outdoor Guide to bring together information for walks all around the UK. Recently they collaborated with Derbyshire Distillery and created The Outdoor Guide Gin. This delicious gin combines traditional juniper with locally sourced Peak District inspired botanicals of blackberry, raspberry, nettle, mint, heather and lavender giving it that earthy outdoor flavour. It makes a great post-walk treat served over ice or with a mixer! Available from www.derbyshiredistillery.com £39 75cl.
Bobby’s Schiedam Dry Gin is spicy and fragrant incorporating a base of juniper with whole clove, cubeb pepper, cinnamon, lemongrass, rose hips, fennel and coriander – some real Christmas flavours. This exotic gin is a Dutch-Indonesian hybrid that celebrates the 150-year-old shared history of the two countries. The bottle features an ‘Ikat’ pattern which is a traditional Indonesian design. Available to buy from masterofmalt.com – 42% ABV. RPP: £37.99/70cl.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a gin quite as magnificent Snow Globe Gin! Gently shake the bottle and turn on the lamp switch on the base and become mesmerised by the falling edible 23kt gold leaf and the Christmas scene inside. This is essentially an adults snow globe! It’s not all about the show though – the gin has indulgent orange and gingerbread flavours that capture the taste of Christmas! Available to buy here RRP £29 – 700ml, 20% alc./vol. It’s also vegan suitable and allergen-free.
Every time I do a gift guide, I rave about Lolita hand-painted and decorated glasses. When it comes to choosing gifts, they are often top of my list. Each glass is unique, and they have such a beautiful range of designs they make the perfect item to collect! When it comes to gin, these Stemless Glasses are perfect for a classic G&T or a more festive cocktail!
Fans of the award-winning BBC period crime drama Peaky Blinders (or in fact anyone looking to be a bit more adventurous with their favourite gin) will love this officially licensed Peaky Blinders Cocktail book. There are 40 easy-to-make cocktail recipes with a whole section of gin cocktails sure to be enjoyed by any gin lover! Amongst the recipes, there is some beautiful photography of the cast and some of the settings from the show. RRP £12.99 available from *Amazon.
These vintage MDF street signs make the perfect Gin Lover gift! They are hand finished and can be hung on the wall with the included brackets or free-standing if you choose. There is a selection of different wording, font and styles to choose from – you are certain to find the perfect one!
Gin cocktails are often served with a garnish and one of those dreaded plastic straws. In an attempt to be more environmentally friendly, more and more people are switching to paper straws. There are many complaints about this type of straw going soggy, but the impact of single-use plastics is real and serious. A great alternative to a plastic straw would be these recyclable, sustainable and durable, German-engineered glass straws. These straws are great for the environment while remaining completely functional and also looking elegant in any gin glass!
