Edinburgh is a must-visit place that is easy to access but can almost feel like a world away. As you know, I am nothing more than a Manc girl through and through, but I love travel and adventure, and Edinburgh is a wonderful place. Of course, there is no better time to visit Edinburgh than during the Edinburgh Christmas Market! The Edinburgh Christmas Market 2023 is set to be bigger and better than ever, and if, like me, you can’t wait, I’ve got all you need to know below!

At the time of writing this post, all information regarding Edinburgh Christmas Market 2023 is up to date and correct to the best of my knowledge. Events can and do change, so it’s best to double-check any details with event organisers before you make a journey. 

When Is The Edinburgh Christmas Market 2023

This year, the Edinburgh Christmas Market 2023 will be held for seven weeks, from Friday, the 17th of November 2023, to Saturday, the 6th of January 2024. This event sees big crowds from far and wide with festive cheer in bucket loads! It’s certainly not an event to be missed, so add it to your diary now!

East Princes Street Gardens

Launching on the 18th of November, West Princes Street Gardens transforms into the hub of festive joy with the arrival of the Festive Family Funfair. Revellers can enjoy an array of rides and attractions, complemented by a delightful selection of festive food and beverage stalls. Within the West Gardens, the Winter Windows Schools Art Project will unfold, accompanied by enchanting festive illuminations.

Adding to the merriment, the iconic Ross Bandstand, nestled in West Princes Street Gardens, sets the stage for a festive lineup of community-centric and family-friendly live events. The program features live choirs, lively ceilidhs, spirited silent discos, the radiant Edinburgh Diwali: Festival of Light, the adorable Santa Paws, and the spirited Santa Fun Run. Get ready for a season of joy and celebration!

George Street – Ice Rink

George Street is set to dazzle with the enchanting Edinburgh’s Christmas Ice Rink. Offering a magical experience, the ice rink is conveniently covered, ensuring that visitors can revel in the icy fun regardless of the weather. After a delightful skate, why not cosy up with a cup of mulled wine or hot chocolate, indulge in vintage funfair rides, and then explore the abundance of food and gift stalls lining George Street?

Do You Need Tickets to Attend The Edinburgh Christmas Market 2023? Edinburgh Christmas Market 2023 is free to visit, and you do not need to book in advance or have tickets. Just turn up and enjoy. 

You can secure your spot by pre-booking a range of rides and activities online in advance, including Ice Skating, The Big Wheel, and the magical Santa’s Stories experience. While online booking ensures convenience, rest assured that all rides, whether pre-booked or not, can be paid for seamlessly at the entry point of the ride or attraction.

Edinburgh Christmas Market 2023 is cashless and will be accepting card payments only.

Where Can I Park? There is no designated parking for the Christmas market, but there are lots of car parks in Edinburgh City Centre, all within walking distance of the Christmas Market; however, parking is limited and finding a space can be challenging on a normal weekend, let alone during the Christmas Market. It may be best to look at public transport for your convenience.

Where Is The Nearest Hotel? Edinburgh has an abundance of hotels and overnight accommodations, all within good walking distance from the Christmas Market. Due to the nature of how busy this event can be, it is best to check somewhere like booking.com for up-to-date locations that have availability. Due to the good public transport links, finding a hotel outside the city may be a more economical option and provide better availability.

For anyone who hasn’t visited the Edinburgh Christmas Market before, it’s worth noting that the market is outside and uncovered. Dress appropriately for the weather with suitable footwear for walking. The market is spread across the city centre, and it does involve some walking and busy crowds.
