You know what they say: failing to prepare is preparing to fail, so with that in mind you need to make sure you have everything packed before you head off on your next trip. We get it, it’s really easy to leave it to the last minute and then panic and overstuff every bag you’re taking with what you think are the “essentials” … but don’t worry. Here you’ll find a list of things you should have sorted, packed or arranged before you jump on that plane.
Your insurance
The most boring thing about travelling? Arranging your insurance! But the strange thing about insurance is that you don’t appreciate it until you need it. You might already have travel insurance – which will help if your luggage is lost or your flight cancelled, but don’t forget about your medical insurance. That way if you fall, slip or trip, get ill, break a bone, chip a tooth or even die, you’ll be covered. Finding the world of insurance a little confusing? Check out the Schengen insurance guide.
Happy Travels!
Don’t forget the important things
Yes. Yes. I know you’re not daft…but things can become so easily be overlooked when you’re scrambling around looking for clean underwear, travel money, your phone and toiletries and trying to catch your flight in time. So, just to be sure:
- Remember your passport
- Boarding passes
- Bank and credit cards
- Driver’s License
- Travel documents
- Visas
- Reservation confirmations
Put them all in a folder and keep it in a safe place. It’s also recommended to have spare copies of these documents. Kept separately of course.
Emergency cash
You never know what might happen when you’re out travelling. You might have your bag stolen whilst you’re in the middle of nowhere and you need to get back to the hostel. So it’s a good idea to have some emergency cash on your person. Stuffed in a pocket, in a sock, bra – anywhere you can think of! If something does happen, you’ll be glad of it.
Your vaccinations and proof
Certain countries require you to have vaccinations and protection from things like malaria before you visit. So it’s important you book an appointment with your GP and get these arranged before you travel. Don’t leave it to the last minute. Also, bring proof of these vaccinations with you, ask your GP.
A reusable water bottle
Bottled water is every travellers friend. But it’s expensive, bad for the environment and awkward to get through security at the airport. Treat yourself to a reusable water bottle and you can keep it topped up throughout your travels. This will save you money!
Hand sanitiser
Never underestimate how debilitating a sickness bug can be. Especially when you’re in a foreign country. Having a mini bottle of hand sanitiser with you when you’re out and about will help keep those nasty bugs and germs at bay. Remember to make use of it after handling money, touching door handles or something dirty. Your immune system will thank you!
