Save Money by Growing Your Own Produce

Cut herbs

The majority of us source the ingredients that we use to make our meals from supermarkets and grocery stores. It’s a long time since the masses relied on growing their own produce to be able to eat. However, it’s important to remember that you don’t necessarily have to throw this tradition behind you, and you don’t necessarily have to get all of your food from convenience stores. There are plenty of different foods that you can grow from your own home. Now, there are plenty of benefits that come hand in hand with doing this. You can gain a hobby. You can feel a sense of fulfillment from eating something you have cultivated yourself. You can also be sure that what you are eating is free of pesticides, additives, and other nasties. However, one of the biggest benefits is the amount of money that you can save! So, where can you get started?

Herbs

Herbs are the go-to when it comes to first starting out growing your own produce. They are perhaps one of the simplest things that you can grow from home. Even absolute beginners can quickly have a healthy source of herbs in their living space. Make sure to read any instructions when growing your own herbs, as some are real anomalies, but you’ll generally find that most thrive with a sunny and light placement. If you want to avoid the use of pesticides or need to vigilantly monitor your herbs, it’s best to grow them indoors. Create a herb garden within your kitchen. Thyme, oregano, basil, coriander, parsley, and dill are all good options to consider!

Tomatoes

Most of us pick up tomatoes in the store. Cherry tomatoes, plum tomatoes, beef tomatoes… the list goes on and on. So, seeing as we’re eating so many of them, why not grow some ourselves? If you plan on growing tomatoes, you will find that they grow best in greenhouses. So, invest in one from a reliable source like Cultivar greenhouses. Plenty of other plants will be able to make a home in here too!

Chillies

Now, chances are that you already know someone who grows their own herbs or their own tomatoes. But how many people do you know who grow their own chillies? Now, it’s surprising that more people don’t engage with this plant, despite the fact that we incorporate chillies into so many recipes. Now is a better time than ever to start! January and February are prime months for sowing chilli seeds and they should be ready to spice things up by summer!

Cherries

Cherries are an expensive buy from most grocery stores. But growing them yourself is so much more rewarding than simply having cherries to eat at some point or another. Cherry trees blossom and have beautiful flowers at different points throughout the year, making them a beautiful aesthetic addition to your garden too!

These are just a few different ingredients that you might want to look into growing yourself. There are, of course, plenty more options out there. But these should serve as a good starting block!
