Using Beautiful Flowering Trees to Enhance your Garden

As you all know, I love gardens. They are fantastic places. Over the course of a couple of years, you can easily turn a boring patch of lawn into a bright and colourful oasis. You will be surprised by how easy it is and how much you enjoy the process.

There are plenty of flowering trees you can use to help you to achieve this transformation. Even if you do not have a huge garden, you can usually find enough space to plant at least one.

Somewhere out there, there is a flowering tree with your name on it. All you have to do is to find it, plant it and take good care of it. Below I have pulled together a few of the nation’s favourites to get you started with the hunt for yours.

Crab apples

The pink flowers of the crab apple tree look wonderful. This tree flowers in the early spring. Look out for the Malus Rudolph variety. This tree has cerise pink blossoms, which are particularly striking.

If you prefer white blossom go for the Malus Evereste. As the name indicates when in full bloom this delicate tree looks like it is covered in snow.

Scarlet Hawthorn

Another tree that produces beautiful deep pink blossom is the Pauls Scarlet Hawthorn. Most people use this tree for hedging little realising that it can actually be grown and trimmed to create a stunning focal point.

Magnolia trees

If you live in the right part of the UK, you can grow magnolias. These trees produce very big flowers, so they can have quite an impact, when they are in full bloom.

Flowering cherry trees

You really cannot go wrong with cherry trees. They have the most abundant and startling blossom of any of the flowering trees that will grow happily in the UK. In the springtime, the tree looks like it is covered in soft, pink candyfloss.

For pink blossom, consider planting the Prunus Kanzan. If you prefer white, take a look at the Prunus Shirotae variety.

Lamarkii varieties

If you plant Lamarkii, most you will get to enjoy numerous bursts of colour. In the spring, you can enjoy the generous blossom that clusters all the way along the stem and branches. The coppery leaves then appear and turn red. Until, when the conditions are right, the leaves turn bright red again along with little fruits. Then finally, the leaves turn black and fall off. It really is a remarkable display that plays out over the course of about 8 months. It is one of the reasons so many people enjoy having this tree in their garden.

Where to find more inspiration

The above are just a handful of examples of flowering trees. There are hundreds of possibilities, so if none of the above appeals to you just go to Pinterest or somewhere like that. You can then pick a few that catch your eye and find out whether they can be grown in your area.
