Why use baby carriers?
Baby wearing has a long history. Of course, many things have changed over time, but thanks to the new technologies and materials we don’t need to wear our babies in old cloth, shawls or even bedsheets anymore, as it used to be before the 1900s. The best baby carriers of these days have many benefits. Most of them are ergonomic, so it is completely natural that some newborns can fall asleep only in a carrier, especially if it is a very comfortable one. Babies like carrying because it reminds them the feeling when they were nine months in a womb, and that soothes them.
Easier traveling
Baby carriers allow you to be hands-free while you are carrying your little baby. That feature gives you the opportunity to accomplish more things at the same time. For example, you can prepare dinner for your family members while your baby is sleeping in a carrier. Shopping will become much easier because you don’t have to manipulate with a stroller in a mall anymore and with free hands, you can choose groceries much faster. If you live in places with too bumpy walkways where is very hard to push a stroller, you will also appreciate the services of a baby carrier.
More exercise for you
A brisk walk with your baby in a carrier is considered by many fitness trainers as great cardio for your health, and I guess many mothers want to lose some weight right after the birth. There is one thing that you need to keep in mind during these walks. The longer they will last, the more will suffer your back. That is particularly relevant for tiny women who don’t
have so much strength in their shoulder muscles. Women who don’t have a problem with the weight of the child on their shoulders can try walking up and down stairs.
Medical benefits for babies and their parents
Babies who spend great amounts of time on their backs or bellies could suffer from physical abnormalities such as flattened skulls or hip dysplasia . Carrying in a baby carrier massage their abdomen, which is good for their digestion and also great prevention of all the problems mentioned above.
It is not an accident that carried babies start talking earlier. From the comfort of a carrier, they can easier discover the world around them and have more opportunities to listen to other people’s talks. All this promotes their language development.
Carrying also promotes the production of Oxytocin ; the hormone which helps mothers with bonding with the baby and milk production.
Disadvantages of baby carrying
Of course, there are also some cons related to babywearing. Using a baby carrier during hot days could be for your baby very dangerous. Your warm body and carrier heated from the sun could overheat the body of your child very quickly. The rain will not be your friend also. So, if you don’t want to get wet or sunburn, a pushchair will be a better option in this case.
As you can see, there are more pros than cons when you want to buy a baby carrier. Those are my main reasons why I would decide to buy one. If you know about some other benefits, don’t hesitate to share your opinion in the comments below.
