When I was pregnant with Hugo, I documented the highs and lows in the hopes that it would help other women feel less alone. That’s the thing with parenting; we are mainly feeling our way in the dark. I didn’t have the ‘best’ pregnancy in terms of how I felt, and I openly admitted suffering depression and anxiety. I was even referred to the Maternal Mental Health team who I found really supportive. Depression is a bit of a taboo topic, especially for a pregnant woman, but I also found something else we don’t speak about too much is incontinence.
Incontinence is personal, embarrassing, and people assume it only happens to the elderly! Incontinence is also very common after birth, and there are so many women that experience it every day. I suffered from severe incontinence during my pregnancy with Hugo, and I seemed to lose complete control of my bladder. I openly discussed this with my GP and midwife, who said it was related to the position of the baby. I was referred to a specialist at the hospital, but I was advised that until I had given birth, there wasn’t anything we could do.
After Birth
Once Hugo arrived, my bladder incontinence had definitely improved. I didn’t have as much urgency as I had during pregnancy, and I seemed to have more control. I still needed to wear pads though and would occasionally have accidents so when I received the letter from the specialist inviting me for an appointment I was so relieved.
After explaining my symptoms and completing a brief survey, I also discussed the fact that after having forceps delivery with my first and a tear with Hugo, I was left with some quite uncomfortable scar tissue. The specialist advised that the scar tissue was to be expected and that I go away and continue pelvic floor exercises for the weak bladder. I was discharged from the clinic and left feeling as if this was just the way things were going to be now.
BTL EMSELLA & Ultra Femme 360
I first heard about BTL EMSELLA providing help to women in a similar position to myself and disregarded it entirely. I wasn’t sure how any kind of procedure where you remain fully clothed was going to help! Not that I felt getting nude was the answer, but my symptoms were moderate at best, and I couldn’t see how anything like this could help. I spoke to Dr Tracey Sims, the Medical Director at Intimate You a clinic in Liverpool that specialises in the treatment who explained a bit more about the treatment and how it could potentially help. It would be six-eight sessions lasting 28 minutes, and each treatment is the equivalent of doing 11,200 pelvic floor exercises!
During our conversation, Dr Tracey Sims also discussed Ultra Femme 360; ultimately, it is a safe and non-surgical alternative to vaginoplasty and labiaplasty. A simple procedure that stimulates collagen production and helps enhance blood flow providing a complete vaginal rejuvenation. It sounded as though the two treatments would compliment each other, and the Ultra Femme 360 could help with the scar tissue I was left with after both children.
Nervous, Anxious and Not Sure
I have to admit that I was a bit anxious about starting the procedures. This was an embarrassing topic for me; it was very private, and the idea of it all made me want to turn on my heel and run. As soon as I stepped into the clinic, I was reassured and put to ease by Dr Tracey Sims and her team. She listened to my symptoms and offered acknowledgement without judgement. She knew exactly what I was talking about and I didn’t feel like there was any kind of sales pitch it was just good patient care, which was so refreshing.
I really thought I would feel awkward, but bizarrely, I felt comfortable and at home! I was allowed to ask any questions, and I felt like both treatments were explained in detail without any hard to understand jargon. Suddenly I went from feeling apprehensive to feeling really positive. We agreed on a plan of action, and because neither treatment requires downtime, it made fitting in the appointments around my lifestyle really easy. The Ultra Femme 360 is a course of three sessions – one per week and the BTL EMSELLA is eight sessions split over the three weeks.
The Results
To sum it up in simple terms, both treatments have completely changed my life. Before I started the BTL EMSELLA sessions, I would need to wear a pad, and I was often anxious about when and where I would have access to the toilet. Sometimes to combat the issue, I would restrict my fluid intake, often avoiding drinking at all until I was at home. This wasn’t at all healthy, and I felt like I was in a fog most of the time, and I struggled with headaches. I now no longer have these worries and concerns, and I feel as though I can take my kids to the park or go on a long dog walk without the anxiety I once had.
Although I wouldn’t have ever said that I felt I needed the Ultra Femme 360 treatment as I was happy with everything as it was below of course after two children things were ‘different’ down there. This treatment has not only really helped improve the discomfort I was having with my scar tissue; it has given me self-confidence I never even knew I had lost. I have spent the last year as an extension of my baby, Hugo, but now I feel a piece of me is back to pre-children.
It’s not about vanity – I have no desire to take up employment in the pornography industry, nor do I whip my bits out for people to see. It’s not about how it looks but how I now feel as a result of having it done.
Would I Recommend?
If someone asked me if they should get either BTL EMSELLA or the Ultra Femme 360, I would hand on heart say they should. Both treatments were painless, quick and required no recovery period. I am all about body confidence and people feeling good within themselves, and some people say I should be happy with my body as it is after giving birth. I am incredibly grateful for all my body did when I had my babies, and I would sacrifice anything for my children, but that doesn’t mean I have to. For the self-confidence, I have got out of this whole procedure alone; it is worth it tenfold.
I recently did a guest post over on Motherhood The Real Deal about this topic if yopu get chance to stop by!

Love as always!
