Ways to get in Shape for Summer

With summer fast approaching that often means we begin to think more about getting our bodies into shape. The idea of donning a swimsuit with those extra pounds we piled on over winter can be really daunting. Even the idea of getting into shape can seem like a huge task but it really doesn’t need to be. I’ve put together some simple and easy ways to help you get in shape for summer.

Shake Up your Diet

You don’t have to go on a strict eating regime or starve yourself but it really does pay to evaluate your diet and eating behaviours. Over time it’s easy for bad habits to form and we can often find ourselves making poorer food choices. Look at what you are eating and honestly assess whether there are any changes you can make. Try swapping out easy to access snacks for healthy alternatives and consider whether the portion size is correct.

Food Planning & Preparation

Plan and prepare your meals in advance before you are hungry or tired to avoid reaching for unhealthy convenience foods. It’s often at the end of a busy day when we are already exhausted that we will make those poorer food choices opting for convenience over what’s nutritionally balanced. Preparing and planning food in advance can prevent this.

Join a Gym

For some people the commitment of joining a gym can be enough motivation to kick start their exercise regime and get them moving more. Nowadays gyms are more accessible with some opening twenty-four hours a day with a range of equipment and classes for use at your convenience. Exercising in the comfort of a gym means you don’t have to worry about the cost, maintenance or storage of your own equipment.

Ditch the Car

If you live within walking distance from work then why not leave the car at home and commute on foot a few times a week? If the whole journey is too much why not get off the bus a few stops earlier or park in a car park further away from work? A great alternative to travelling by car is cycling why not look at some of the cheap Hybrid Bikes available and travel to work on two wheels instead of four? Travelling by bike is better for the environment and can mean you avoid traffic at peak times so it’s a win, win!

Move More

Whenever you get the opportunity during the day get up and move more. Set a goal to walk so many steps each hour or take the stairs instead of the lift. Why not try speed or power walking for a few minutes to get your heart rate up? These small lifestyle changes can have a huge impact and they are entirely free and require no specialist equipment or costs.

There are many different ways to get in shape for summer and you can make subtle and easy changes that will make an impact without being overwhelmed or over faced. What are your tips for getting in shape?
