Christmas is an exciting time and I love getting the house ready and feeling festive. My husband always flirts with the idea of going away for Christmas, staying in a log cabin somewhere filled with snow, and although I have always wanted to learn how to ski, I can’t bring myself to be anywhere but home at Christmas! This got me thinking about all the different ways people celebrate but also decorate! So which kind of Christmas decorator are you?
Christmas Time is Here?
So it’s that time of year again when the Christmas tree makes its annual appearance and houses across the world will be festively decorated in time for the 25th. I always find when it comes to decorating for Christmas there are three main categories of people:
- The people who do not, will not, nor have any intention to decorate. (Bah Humbug!)
- The people who decorate haphazardly with no care for order and semblance and that’s exactly how they like it.
- Finally, those who decorate with such precision and obsessive compulsivity that frankly Christmas would be ruined if a piece of tinsel is out-of-place!
Do Your Baubles Match the Tinsel?
So which kind of decorator are you? I have to admit I am a little guilty of allowing my son to help decorate only to rearrange things slightly when he’s tucked up in bed. I’m not, however, one for matching decorations or colour schemes. Our baubles have more meaning than anything with some personalised or from a special place and then just the ones we consider favourites. Although I will occasionally stick the tackier choices toward the back I don’t think it really matters.
My Mother, however, would decorate with such anal precision it was quite a military operation and ultimately sucked the fun out of everything. Growing up if it wasn’t red or gold it did not see the tree whether it was handcrafted or not! I have to admit this took the fun and festivities out of Christmas somewhat!
If You Don’t Decorate was it Really Christmas?
My friend Liz is the complete opposite and an anomaly to me!! She point-blank refuses to decorate at all. She doesn’t see the point, want to exert the effort or wanted to deal with the mess. I see her point of view but come on not even a Christmas candle?? Seriously though people choose not to decorate for so many different reasons, some quite personal and honestly if that is your choice I completely respect it. When it comes to Christmas you do you. No judgement here.
So how is your decorating going? Let me know which category you best fall into or if you are a mixture. I am definitely between two and three! Have you followed your family tradition or broken free of the mould as I have?
Thank you as always for stopping by! Check out my last post here.
Love as always!
