Weight loss for me is a contentious subject. I feel as though it is a constant battle. Some people can regularly eat a large stuffed crust pizza followed by a family sized Dairy Milk washed down with a gallon of full-fat coke and not gain a pound. I only have to walk down the bread aisle at Tesco, and I’ve put on half a stone. Now don’t get me wrong when it comes to weight loss for me the formula is straightforward – eat less, move more. I’ve previously mentioned and tracked my Slimming World journey here on my blog, and it has been very successful. 2019 is about to begin, so it seems like the perfect time to start it up again. Here are my 2019 weight loss goals!
Past Experiences with SlimmingWorld
I have previously lost a significant amount of weight doing Slimming World. It was also the easiest diet to follow as it is more of a lifestyle change which is exactly what I needed. My weight had increased due to poor lifestyle choices. So if I did so well last time what went wrong?
During my Slimming World journey, I went through prescription painkiller addiction. I made a choice to tackle that head-on, and I quit the drugs cold turkey. This left me in a vulnerable state. My body went through some horrific symptoms, and the road was rough. At that time it was my priority to focus on quitting the drugs, and my weight loss had to take a back seat. I just couldn’t do both, but I knew that the drugs were the most hazardous to my health at that time.
Shortly after getting off the painkillers my husband and I decided that as I was in the best place possible in regards to my addiction that we should consider trying for a baby. I was still determined to re-establish Slimming World as it is perfectly healthy to do while pregnant and trying to conceive as long as you do it correctly. However almost immediately after I fell pregnant, I suffered from horrendous morning sickness that lasted throughout the day for the majority of my pregnancy. Certain foods would make vomit violently just being within a certain radius. I also suffered horrendous incontinence, and the loss of a family member saw me grieving all at the same time. I ended up with prenatal depression, and I struggled with the pregnancy throughout. This wasn’t the time to be concentrating on weight loss coupled with the fact that I couldn’t stand certain foods it was better to eat what I could when I could.
Current Weight
I gave birth to a beautiful, healthy boy back in June over six months ago and planned to take a couple of weeks and then get back on my weight loss but as with anything it really didn’t happen like that at all. Hugo had many different issues silent reflux and suspected CMPA to name a few. Since I was breastfeeding, it meant that my whole diet had to change to compensate and I found that the foods I could eat were severely restricted. This was also emotionally and mentally hard so it saw me using food as a crutch which is never good.
On top of all that I am also suffering from a severe Psoriatic Arthritis flare leaving me in agonising pain and discomfort with several of my joints inflamed and sore. I’ve been on a long course of steroids which has made me balloon.
I’m currently over four stone heavier than I would like to be. I weigh more now than I did when I was about to give birth. That means I have practically eaten a baby!! I’m aware that we live in a ‘diet culture’ world. That we should be happy and confident in who we are and how we look regardless of weight. Well, I don’t. It’s simple – I shouldn’t be four stone overweight it’s not good for my health, my joints or my self-esteem. I find that I shy away from photos with my children – memories to look back on. I want to feel confident and happy, and I want to get in front of the camera with both of my boys so that they can look back and remember those moments too. Really I know that it shouldn’t be about weight, but for me, it very much is, so I am going to do something about it. I am setting myself some 2019 weight loss goals and I plan on feeling, looking and being lighter!!
New Year Goals – 2019 Weight Loss Goals
