Eating Out on Slimming World – Tips & Tricks

Colourful sweet peppers stacked together

Embarking on a Slimming World journey doesn’t mean bidding farewell to the joy of dining out. If you aren’t sure where to start when it comes to eating out on Slimming World, I am here to help. In this guide, I’m going to share with you some savvy strategies to help you stick to your Slimming World plan while still getting to enjoy meals out.

I am a foodie at heart, and I love nothing more than visiting fun restaurants and trying new food. It’s a pastime I enjoy doing with friends and family, and when I first joined Slimming World, I thought it meant I had to say goodbye to that part of my life. The Slimming World plan is very much geared up to support cooking at home from scratch. You ditch the processed foods and opt for healthier alternatives that are optimised to keep you on plan. But how does that fair when you eat a meal out? Does it mean you can’t ever enjoy eating out on Slimming World? Although navigating meals out is more of a challenge, it certainly isn’t impossible, and these tips and tricks should help make it easier.

Tips & Tricks For Eating Out On Slimming World

Navigating Menus Mindfully

The very first thing to do is study the menu and try to identify any Slimming World-friendly options. Focus on dishes that include lean proteins, vibrant vegetables, and healthier cooking methods. Deep-fried breaded chicken is probably not the one. Proactive menu choices set the tone for a successful dining experience, ensuring both satisfaction and adherence to your Slimming World principles. If you have a planned dinner date, then look the menu up online before you go so you can go armed with a strategy. It can be much harder to think on the spot, especially if hunger comes into play. Although our friends and family are often trying to be supportive, if they are the type to encourage you to sack off the diet, then being forearmed with a choice in advance can help you stay resilient.

Strategic Ordering for Success

Master the art of strategic ordering by customising your choices. Opt for grilled instead of fried, request dressings on the side, and explore inventive ways to replace high-syn ingredients. Empower yourself with practical examples, turning the ordering process into a mindful selection that aligns seamlessly with your Slimming World goals. You don’t need to stick to a boring salad, but most restaurants are happy to tweak foods slightly, and by doing so, you can help make a synned meal more optimised.

Smart Substitutions and Swaps

Making intelligent substitutions is probably the best advice I can give you when eating out on Slimming World. Prep in advance by identifying a comprehensive list of common ingredients that can be easily swapped for healthier alternatives. From choosing a side salad over fries to opting for a tomato-based sauce, these actionable substitutions can make sticking to the Slimming World plan effortless.

Navigating Social Pressures

It’s important to mention here that if you feel like having a night off from your Slimming World plan, that is also okay. I often incorporate the controversial cheat days into my regime and still lose weight. It has to be about what you want to do, though. Suppose you want to be strong and stay 100% on plan, then setting up the steps to enable you to best achieve that is the goal. I know that people will often say you should not be dictated to by a diet and ‘eat the pancakes’ if you want. That is all well and good and sound advice IF that is what you want to do. Often, this advice comes from well-meaning people who are not on a weight loss journey, and sometimes, this advice isn’t all that helpful. I’m all for body-positive – love the skin you are in and don’t deprive yourself of food, BUT if your priority is losing weight because perhaps you don’t feel good in your own skin, that should be respected. Rant over – I feel like we should normalise people wanting to start and be successful on a weight loss journey.

Dining out is not just about the food on the plate, but in a way, it should be a holistic experience that fosters a mindful and positive relationship with eating.
